Sorrento vintage costume jewelry
The history of the Sorrento jewelry brand began in 1951 as the registered trademark of the Uncas Manufacturing Co. Its founder and owner was a prominent American jeweler of Italian origin Vincent Sorrentino (1892-1976). Established in 1911 and headquartered at Atwells Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island, Uncas Manufacturing Co used many trademarks. Among them were Coronado, Christian, Heritage, Vincenzo, Corsini, Stylerite, H.G.E., Teddy Bear, U, Sorrento, and more.
Vincent Sorrentino retired in 1960, and his son Stanley Sorrentino became the president of the company. Under Stanley’s leadership the firm continued its process of diversification. In 1991, John Corsini, an Uncas veteran, became the firm’s president, and Stanley Sorrentino served the company as the chairman of the board.
Most of Sorrento jewelry is either gold filled or sterling silver with the use of natural stones – jade, coral, carnelian, hematite, cultured and faux pearls. Delicate and somewhat classic designs include filigree leaves, ivory carved flowers and cameos, circle pins and brooches. High quality Sorrento pieces are now attracting collectors’ interest.
Noteworthy, the Sorrentino family still continues the jewelry business.
