Signed Me Inc Vintage Costume Jewelry
The history of the jewelry brand Me Inc began in 1970 in New York and lasted less than ten years. Initially, it was a family business of Carol Joan Kellner (b. 1929) and her husband Louis Kellner. Carol Kellner was a professional artist who graduated from the City University of New York in 1950. In 1951, she married Louis Kellner, with whom she lived until his death in 1980.
Her vibrant artistic spirit undoubtedly influenced everything she did, whether it was jewelry design, sculpture, painting, dancing, or playing tennis. A theater lover, she created theater-themed jewelry featuring dramatic and comedic masks and harlequins. As a tap dancer and a member of the United Dance Merchants of America (UDMA), she supplied the dance community with figurative pins and pendants featuring ballerinas, dancers, and dance accessories. The designer used gold, silver, high-grade metal alloy, and bright enamels to create her unique pieces by hand. The manufacturer’s label included “Me Inc.”
Notably, unique handcrafted items marked “Me Inc.” are extremely rare and highly collectible. According to patent records from 1972, Carol Kellner filed an application to register sculptures and jewelry articles. Among these items were, in particular, metal charms “Huggers” and a sculpture “Fortune Cookie”.
After the death of her husband Louis, Carol Kellner founded the eponymous jewelry company (1982). The head office of the domestic corporation Carol Kellner Inc was registered at 100E Hartsdale Ave, Apt 7-IE, Hartsdale, NY, 10530. More common on the vintage jewelry market, jewelry marked C.Carol is also collectible and recognizable, like Me Inc.
