Signed D’Or Vintage Costume Jewelry
Located at 64 Pettaconsett Avenue Cranston 10 Rhode Island, D’Or Jewelry Co Inc manufactured jewelry from the late 1950s to 1970. Known as a jewelry designer, manufacturer, and retailer, D’Or Jewelry Co Inc handcrafted two lines of jewelry. The first line included silver and gold filled pieces, which is in keeping with the brand name, as D’Or means “made of gold.”
The designers also used natural stones such as onyx, garnet, jade, carnelian, tiger’s eye, hematite, opals, as well as cultured pearls, abalone and carved ivory. A second line, aimed at a wider audience of buyers, included jewelry with synthetic stones and imitation pearls, sold at a lower price. According to D’Or’s advertising, their company sold jewelry only through a wholesaler.
Notably, 1959-1961 JCK (Jewelers’ Circular-Keystone) introduced the company’s full range and product categories. These were genuine D’Or cameos, cufflinks, chain bracelets, miniature pendants, coin jewelry, pins, earrings, necklaces for all ages – children, teenagers and adults. The style of D’Or jewelry is typical of the 1950s and 60s – circle pins with leaves and floral design, animal figural pins, filigree elements and intricate carvings on ivory. And also the eternal theme of Egyptian revival with multi-colored genuine scarabs, a symbol of rebirth and transformation.
