Renowned and recognized in the world of contemporary jewelry, Sevan Bicakci works in his workshop in Turkey. Called an icon of contemporary jewelry world, he got the title of the “Lord of the Rings.”
Born in 1972, he began studying jewelry art at the age of 12, and apprenticed at the workshop of the famous jeweler Hovsep Catak.
According to Bicakci, during the four years he had been taught a lot. In addition to the basic jewelry techniques, he learned how to behave in a professional environment. Also, the ability to find his own technique and style, born out of passion. “Technique can be taught, but the passion is the main ingredient, and you have it or not.”
Bicakci released his first independent collection of jewelry in 2002, which had great success. Thrice awarded with ‘Town and Country’ prize, he became one of the five most successful jewelers. He also won the “Golden Designer” title in Turkey. Noteworthy, in 2009, Bicakci won the Jameel Prize, given in Victoria and Albert Museum to artists and designers working in the Muslim tradition.
Bicakci uses many different techniques, including micromosaic, calligraphy, and engraving. Especially notable is a unique kind of intaglio technique, which is something like the engraving, thanks to which, the jeweler achieves the effect of depth inside the stone. It seems that the author has put into the stone insect, bird, or even a whole architectural complex!

Despite international recognition and fame, Bicakci still continues to work in the same studio located at Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. He rare appears in the media, and does not even speak English. He surrounded himself with like-minded people and students, which gradually became a team of jewelers to help him realize his new ideas. Today, in the team of a workshop of the master – ninety five jewelers working in different techniques. They produce about 350 jewelry pieces annually. Noteworthy, it takes them from a few months to several years to create decorations.
Today, his jewelry is sold in boutiques in many cities of the world, including two of his own boutiques. One of them is in Istanbul, and the other in Dubai. Today, the admirers of his talent include such stars as Brooke Shields, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Elizabeth Hurley, Liv Tyler, Halle Berry, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga and Rihanna. The innovative jeweler uses diamonds, gold, precious stones, and the prices for his jewelry can reach hundreds of thousands of dollars.
