Anti-ageing golden gloves
Initially, the gloves were not a luxury, but rather a necessity. They were made from a variety of inexpensive materials and used by shepherds, peasants and soldiers of different times. With the emergence of social classes, gloves came to symbolize the status of their owner. Gloves of kings and the higher clergy were richly decorated with gold, silver, pearls and precious stones. For mere mortals were available only gloves of deerskin, calf and sheep skin. In the XI-th century the gloves have become part of the liturgical ornaments in the Catholic Church. The bishops, for example, wore gloves, knitted from gold threads. Priests of lower rank wore only white gloves, which, in a special papal decree, symbolized purity.
