The history of Isabel Canovas jewelry began in 1982 in Paris.
Made in limited quantities to a certain season, her jewelry has become vintage rarity, highly collectible and valuable for jewelry lovers.
Born in 1945 in Paris, French fashion designer, stylist and jeweler Isabel Canovas began her career very early. First, it was the famous Hermes company, and then she worked at Vuitton’s (in the 1970s). Also, she has worked as head designer for Christian Dior (for ten years). Finally, aged 37, she opened her own boutique located at the fashionable Avenue Montaigne in Paris. Later, she expanded her business to Madison Avenue in New York and in Madrid.
Most famous of her jewelry lines include Circus, African and tribal designs, as well as pieces inspired by nature. Traditionally, the Parisian designer labeled her products with the full name “Isabel Canovas”, or added the name of a certain decorations. Thus, each of her clown brooches have a name, for example, Alex and Quito (the above photo), marked on the back side.
Noteworthy, in 1992 Isabel Canovas ended her design career with the closure of her stores.

Located in Pawtucket Rhode Island, American jewelry company Marino Jewelry Co. Inc. was active in the middle of the last century. Founded in 1932, the company ceased to exist in the late 1970s. Noteworthy, the last mention of the company and an advertising poster which appeared in Vogue magazine in September 1978.
According to other sources, Marino Manufacturing Company, located in the capital of the jewelry world – Providence, Rhode Island, was active from 1957 to 1983. Perhaps, these were two eponymous companies that produced costume jewelry in the middle of the 20th century. Also, this fact explains the various markings on their decorations. In particular, some items have marking “By Marino”, while others – simply “Marino”.
Marino-marked high-quality pieces are made from textured or polished metal of silver or gold tone. Exquisite design, attention to detail made these bracelets, brooches and necklaces very popular with lovers of vintage jewelry.
Traditionally, Marino jewelry design included faux pearls and glass cabochons imitating natural stones. Rare and highly collectible, the price of Marino decorations will only increase in price.

The history of Marboux brand lasted from 1937 to 1955, when French designer Marcel Boucher marked his products Marboux, or MB (1950 – 1955).
Born in Paris in 1898, Boucher’s mother worked as a seamstress, and his father died when Marcel was still a child. Being the only son of the widow, he joined the corps of the French medical ambulance, instead of the front line during the First World War.
After the end of the war, Boucher worked at the Cartier jewelry house in Paris, and he started from the very bottom — as an apprentice. In 1922, Boucher accepts the proposal to become a designer at the New York branch of the “Cartier” firm.
After the default of 1929, Cartier’s business suffered a lot. In general, it was a turning point for many jewelry companies. That’s why, most jewelers turned to more affordable materials for creating costume jewelry. So, one might say, thanks to the crisis, costume jewelry business has flourished.

The history of Alfred Sung jewelry brand began in early 1980s in Canada. Produced in small editions, Alfred Sung jewelry is quite rare.
Born on June 14, 1948, Alfred Sung grew up in Hong Kong. Canadian couturier of Chinese origin, Sung began his career in Paris and New York. In 1972, he moved to Canada and created his own empire of fashion clothes and accessories.
In Canada he got a job as a designer in a company that produced sportswear. Gradually, Alfred began to create small collection of clothes. And later, with the support of friends and with little savings, he founded his own business.
By 1989, Saul and Joseph Mimran, along with Sung, founded a company that was destined to change the world of the Canadian fashion industry. The designer received a large number of awards at prestigious competitions and ceremonies of the fashion world.
Noteworthy, owned by Mimran Group Inc. Alfred Sung jewelry trademark ceased to exist in 2002.

Little Nemo vintage costume jewelry
American jewelry company Brier MFG Co, better known as Little Nemo, produced jewelry from 1913 to 1978 in Providence, RI. The Brier family immigrated to the United States from Austria in 1900, and Samuel Brier started a tiny jewelry company in Providence. His brother Benjamin, who had worked as a solderer in several jewelry shops, came to work for him.
According to a Fortune article in 1936, Samuel Magid of Boston had gone into the wholesale jewelry business in 1907 after a short career as a novelty-jewelry salesman. Then in 1913 Mr. Magid married Rose Brier, and formed the Brier Manufacturing Co. to make jewelry for his wholesale trade with Benjamin, Charles, and Harry Brier, buying out Samuel Brier.
Benjamin Brier was president of the New England Manufacturing Jewelers and Silversmiths Association in 1942-1943. He retired from the jewelry business in 1972 and died in 1986. His son, Milton, became president of Brier Manufacturing after Benjamin retired. The company ceased operations in 1978.
Most of the jewelry was sold only with paper tags, but some decorations included marks “Little Nemo”, L/N, LN, and LN/25.
