American largest fashion retailer company Dillard’s, Inc. (Little Rock, Arkansas) owns hundreds of trademarks on production of various goods – from shoes and sportswear to dolls and handbags. Among these trademarks registered in 1980-2000 are five jewelry trademarks. In particular, Laura Gayle (1988), Pinnacle (1990), In-Vest-Ments (registered on March 4, 1992), Copper Key (1999), and “M”. Also, eight jewelry trademarks registered after 2000: Francesca Rose, Kate Landry (2002), Katherine Kelly, Jean gems (2004), Nurturi (2006), Antonio Melani AM, Flight School (2007), and Lula Palizzi (2008).
In fact, the current status of In-Vest-Ments trademark – inactive (cancelled on 12 February 2016). However, in the costume jewelry market, you will find very few jewelry decorations made by this brand after 2000, since most of their products were made in the 1990s, and now they are vintage.
In-Vest-Ments designers produced earrings, necklaces, bracelets, brooches and ornamental lapel pins. Traditionally, they used metal alloys, gold and silver plating, lucite, crystals, rhinestones and enamel. Noteworthy, the marking includes “In-Vest-Ments”.

Founded in 1932, the American costume jewelry company Brooks (Natacha) LTD operated for about three decades, until the 1960s. Traditionally, jewelers of the company used sterling silver, vermeil gold, fine gold-tone wire, as well as art glass and faux pearls. Elegant design, high quality, detailing and craftsmanship distinguish all jewelry from this brand. One of the most impressive became the series of brooches and earrings inspired by Russian Ballet and in particular, Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova.
Noteworthy, the earlier pieces had marking “Natacha”, or “Natacha Brooks” and “sterling”, while later items included “Brooks” and a copyright sign (since 1955). Considered collectible, these decorations are rare, and their price will increase every year.

Today the French brand Edouard Rambaud is famous primarily for its collections of furniture and decor items. However, back in the 1980s, its creator, the talented designer Edouard Rambeau, attracted the attention of the public with his extraordinary collections of costume jewelry.
One of the great French jewelry designers, Rambaud founded his label in 1984. Inspired by ancient Greek or Roman jewels, his decorations have a characteristic baroque touch. Traditionally, his designs included hearts, sun, stars and crosses in his works. He made big bold jewelry using a lot of gold and platinum, deliberately rough texture of materials and matte, “fluted” effect. Also, large crystals and semi-precious stones with uneven surfaces, deliberate “melting” effect and significant weight of the pieces. Without a doubt, Rambeau was the designer who shaped his era.

The history of ‘Designs by Lucinda’ lasted for two decades. Registered by Lucinda Inc. in 1995, the trademark ceased to exist in 2014.
First of all, Lucinda’s decorations is not just costume jewelry, but a unique design that brings out serious social issues like homelessness, illiteracy and domestic violence.
Meanwhile, the very touching story of these brooches began after the divorce, when American Lucinda Yates was left virtually on the street without a livelihood. In order to somehow earn a living, she worked hard and in her free time she began creating brooches in the form of houses. Interestingly, she sold the first set of brooches for just $ 6. Today, Lucinda’s fortune is estimated at $ 24 million, and her house brooches have become collectible. Noteworthy, part of the proceeds from the sale of these brooches went to charity, including the homeless.
Traditionally, these brooches include different series: houses, pets, little people, flowers, etc. Handmade and unique, they are very popular and willingly collected.

Located in Providence, Rhode Island, Davinci Creations Inc. produced high quality costume jewelry for three decades (1950-80s). Although there’s not much info about the founders and company history, yet there are some documented records by the United States Patent Office. According to Official Gazette of the United States Patent Office, Volume 820, Capri Jewelry Inc., New York City, New York became assignee of Davinci Creations Inc., Providence, RI, May 12, 1965. But the company continued manufacture of costume jewelry signed Davinci.
Meanwhile, the company’s workshops, located on three floors of a four-story building at 244 Oak Street in Providence, were hit by a fire on January 17, 1973. However, the company continued to operate. Index of Trademarks Issued from the United States Patent Office listed the company Davinci Creations Inc., Providence, RI. as active in 1974.
Traditionally, the jewelers used gold and silver tone alloys, 14 K gold plating, Austrian crystals and rhinestones. One of the most famous series of jewelry was signs of the zodiac. All products were marked with Da Vinci and the copyright mark.
In fact, there are some other jewelry companies with such an iconic brand name – Davinci. One of them – family business Da Vinci Fine Jewelry, Inc in the USA. Also, there is a completely modern brand with the same name in China and in Italy. But these are all completely different brands!

Founded by Joanne and Reginald Lyon Francis Moonan in the 1930s, Authentics Inc was active for about four decades (1930-1969). Later, in the mid-30’s, they renamed their company to Van S. Authentics. According to New York Times, Joanne and Reginald sold their decorations at the Hattie Carnegie salon in New York, and at various stores around the US. Also, Van’s costume jewelry frequently appeared in fashion magazines of the time, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art acquired some of their designs.
Produced in limited edition, in addition to Van’s or Van’s authentic marking, each decoration has a personal number.
During World War II, due to the luck of metals for jewelry, the designers used not ordinary materials, like straw, toy parts, and even nuts. Richard Martin, curator of the Costume Institute of for the costume collection at the Fashion Institute of Technology, when he was the curator there. In 1960s the Moonans sold their company.
New York based costume jewelry designer Joanne A. Moonan created a new company called Wendy Jewelry after her daughter Wendy Lyon Moonan. Of course, it was a completely different company.

American jewelry designers Lauren And Leah Medici were active for about three decades (late 1960s – 1992). The designers drew inspiration from classic craftsman and the culture of ancient civilizations, interpreting them in their unique designs. They produced limited edition series of costume decorations, for example ‘Glitter critters’, “Parisian Palettes”, ‘Whimsies’, etc.
Traditionally, the designers of this company used a metal alloy of glossy or matte gold tones, rarely – silver tone. Also, faux pearls, artificial sapphires and rubies, rhinestones and art glass, mother-of-pearl and enamel. Handcrafted with great attention to detail, this vintage jewelry has become collectible.
All decorations featured in this publication – signed vintage made in 1970-1992. Original vintage decorations have marking of copyright sign and “two sisters” on the back side. Noteworthy, later decorations provided with paper tags, with the brief information about the design, are made in Taiwan.
