American fashion designer of Dominican origin, Oscar de la Renta is the founder of the eponymous brand that appeared in 1967. According to official data, since 1970 the trademark owner has been Richton International Corp.
Born July 22, 1932 in the Dominican Republic, Oscar de la Renta received his first education at the University of San Domingo. Aged 18, Oscar moved to Spain, where he studied painting and art history at the Academy of St. Fernando in Madrid.
According to his biography, he dressed all first US ladies, including Jacqueline Kennedy, Nancy Reagan, Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton. Twice president of the American Council of Fashion Designers, and in 1993–2002 he created collections for the Pierre Balmain house.
Noteworthy, he became the first American to lead the Paris fashion house.
Oscar de la Renta died in 2014 at the age of 82.
