A child of war, deaf and dumb from birth, Nikolay Suslov is a talented many-awarded artist jeweler. Born September 25, 1941 in Kostroma, his young parents were students of Kostroma Textile Institute. Then it was impossible to predict that he would be a Honorary Citizen of his native city of Kostroma.
Passion for creativity woke up in Nikolay quite early. For a deaf and disabled child classes in drawing and painting became successful adaptation. Boarding school for deaf children in which he studied, paid much attention to the crafts lessons. Natural hard work, wise parents and teachers helped to develop the sensitive artistic ability and the right choice of profession.
Suslov received the first professional degree in metal Technology having graduated from the Institute. As a student Nikolay successfully showed his ability not only academically, but also in sports and inventive activity (was engaged in missile modeling). Noteworthy, at the X Olympic Games for the Deaf (Washington, DC, 1965), he won a silver medal in the 4×100 m relay.

Nikolay started his professional career in an experimental creative-industrial studio “Russian Souvenir” and Fedoskino factory of miniature painting, where the artist had worked until his retirement. His wife is also deaf, and works as an artist – jeweler.
Suslov works in traditional antique Russian jewelry art of hot Cloisonne enamel, filigree, mounting, and chasing. The master’s works decorate museums and private collections in Russia, Britain, Germany, Holland and the United States. He is the winner of the international award “Philanthropist” for outstanding achievements of disabled people in the field of art and culture. In 2012, the master took the 1st place in the Moscow festival of applied art “I’m just like you” in the nomination “Best innovative idea.”
