Bead embroidery art by Sherry Serafini
Bead embroidery art by Sherry Serafini – Jewellery that inspires. American designer and unsurpassed master of beading and beaded embroidery Sherry Serafini grew up in a military family, moving every few years. She believes that this nomadic way of life gave her adventurous spirit and brought her to creativity. Sherry Serafini was educated as a graphic designer at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1987. Then she married and started working as a head of the department of advertising in the local newspaper. However, just after the birth of her first daughter, Erica, in 1991 she started creating from beads. Sherry prefers to stay at home with her daughter, instead of working in the advertising department.
In 1997 beadwork became her profession. This is the only medium to which she has remained faithful, and does not see the end of her passion for beaded art. Sherry is a self-taught artist jeweller. Her work often appears on the covers of famous bead magazines. She won prizes at various competitions, presented by major companies of beaded jewelry. Her jewelry is worn by celebrities such as Steven Tyler of the legendary rock band Aerosmith and Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas. She now lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, daughters, Erica and Nikki and two dogs.
Sherry stitches beads and gemstones, one at a time, to a felt like base. Most pieces are born spontaneously as the beads and Sherry’s imagination dictate the design. She seldom works from sketches. Sherry finds this meditative form of art to be a rich counterpoint to a society full of instant gratification. Some pieces take a year to complete.
